Dugcast – 17 January 2020 – & an announcement

Welcome to the 17 January edition of the dugcast. In this week’s episode The National’s editor Callum Baird and I discuss last weekend’s massive pro-indy march organised by AUOB. We discuss Boris Johnson’s entirely predictable refusal to cooperate with a Section 30 order and the possible next steps that can be taken towards independence in the teeth of his refusal. We also chat about the tin ear that Labour leadership candidates have for Scottish concerns and sensibilities, and how within the framework of the UK Scotland’s interests will always be subordinate to the political priorities of the country “down below”.

There’s also an important announcement. This will be the last dugcast for a month as my husband and I are finally going on our much delayed honeymoon. We were not able to have one after the wedding. However next week we are returning to his home state of Connecticut for a week in order to pack his things up properly and arrange for them to be shipped over to Scotland, and then we’re off to the Grand Canyon, Route 66, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, and San Francisco. I’ll be back in Scotland on 17th February.

  1. Still chuckling over Calum’s comment on Manky’s email claiming exactly 10,106 at the march…
Enjoy your break and honeymoon, this shit-fest will still be wriggling when you get back….

  2. I havde used the same handle on numerous sites over the years. As well as being my handle, I also consider it a Public Service Announcement for anyone visiting the USA.

    Happy travels!

  3. Have a great holiday/honeymoon – you will be missed. Best wishes

  5. All the best. The Grand Canyon is mind-blowing when you see it close up. Make sure you check out the Painted Desert and Monument Valley if you can.

  6. …. just back from Arizona (Lake Havasu City), Paul … where a buddy & I went to ride motor-cycles in the sunshine …. we did part of Route 66 from Cool Springs to The Needles on the Colorado River, which is the State line between Arizona / California ….. if you get the chance check it out, I GUAREENTEE it will blow yer mind !!! …. have a great Honeymoon and come back ready for action.

    • In New Zealand the Dept of Conservation (DoC) has long had the mantra ‘take only photographs, leave only footprints’ posted at the entrance to forest tracks/national parks.

There is a big issue of over tourism in many places such as Edinburgh and parts of NZ with NZ introducing a tourist tax to fund necessary infrastructure improvements. Freedom camping was ramped up and promoted around the Rugby World Cup and has caused ongoing problems which are still being grappled with.

Add in the Instagram generation and there are people ignoring warning signs and endangering themselves and their rescuers by ‘having’ to get the same shot as other people. I observed this when back last. It seems to take only one idiot to do something and it becomes what half the planet is determined to copy and nothing should stand in their way.

  7. Enjoy! Enjoy! Packing is not usually such fun but the taste of a swing west through Arizona, San Fran, etc should keep you entertained. We will know just how rooted in Scotland you really are after being in Arizona. If there is another place on this earth to rival Scotland it would be Arizona. Please come back refreshed, relaxed and revitalised.

  8. Have a great time Paul, you will be away when we declare our Independence, hopefully the party will still be on when you come back.

  9. Haste ye back. It will pass so quick. Good people are needed here. Sell a few maps and be back, refreshed. Important times. Keep in touch. Thank goodness for the internet.

  10. “Scotland is gonny have to be annoying”

“We’re just going to annoy you.”

“We’re just going to irritate you.”

“We’re just going to be a thorn in your side.”

For all those folks that think Scotland / Scots are annoying, Scotland hasn’t even being trying up to now. 😉

  11. Forget UK law. Our independence is enshrined in International Law, not on the whim of a foreign elected individual.

Article 1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Article 1 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Article 1 of both Covenants states:

“All peoples have the right of self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.

All peoples may, for their own ends, freely dispose of their natural wealth and resources without prejudice to any obligations arising out of international economic co-operation, based upon the principle of mutual benefit, and international law. In no case may a people be deprived of its own means of subsistence.

The States Parties to the present Covenant, including those having responsibility for the administration of Non-Self-Governing and Trust Territories, (ie Boris Johnson) shall promote the realization of the right of self-determination, and shall respect that right, in conformity with the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations.”

  12. Another Labourite failure bleating nonsense. That is what you will come back to.

Distorting and fiddling figures. The failure of Labour and the Westminster Gov. Blaming Holyrood. They think people cannot see through it. What a failure. Labour illegal wars. Blowing the world to bits. Financial fraud, tax evasion causing a world recession and poverty. Then they lecture people about ‘Internationalism’.

Labour unionist ‘internationalism’ blowing the world to bits. Taking much needed resources and revenues from Scotland. Then blaming the SNP and Holyrood,

Labour conference/commission to discuss it. The Smith Commission utter failure to resolve the major issues because of their intransigence, arrogance and ignorance.

Some trade union funding to blow the world to bits and cause a major banking crash. Their contribute to ‘Internationalism’, the world could do without. Then using Scotland for conscription and taxes to fund it.

Westminster Gov have been doing it for centuries. Illegally and secretly taking resources and revenues from Scotland for their appalling policies. Without any redress or consideration.

Iraq, Lockerbie abc Dunblane kept secret for 100 years. What have they got to hide?

What planet are they I do they really think people do not know what they have done. They blame the SNP and the Scottish Gov for what they have done to the economy, social and foreign policies. People in Scotland suffer because of it.

They are right about one thing Labour will lose heavily at the Holyrood election despite their lies. Lie after lie after lie. They think people cannot see through it. The duplicity. Trying to take people for fools.

The Westminster unionists now tanking the UK economy to line their pockets. People want to remain in the EU for all the benefits. That will only become more obvious as time goes on. It will all end in tears again. Deja Vu Thatcher and the rest of them. Some people never learn.

Scotland will vote out all unionists politicians. Go through the Ballot Box, like it always does. The Westminster leaders who do not support another IndyRef for Scotland do not last very long. Some will soon catch on. Self preservation. Or they will be gone. The Tory shambles adding to the list. Get Labour out of the way. The SNP will defeat the Tories and the harmful policies.

The Holyrood corrupt list. Imposed on Scotland without a mandate, as usual. It can still achieve an outright majority. If people vote for it. The SNP Gov standing up for Scotland with major support and an even stronger mandate. When every unionist is voted out of Scotland. There will be no opposition. On to Independence when people vote for it.

The SNP Gov standing up for Scotland doing magnificently in the circumstances. The Westminster Tory/unionist shambles. The catastrophe. What a mess of inertia.

There will be higher prices and unemployment because of Brexit. People did not vote for it. Self imposed hardship for many people who believed the lies. There will be a major backlash coming soon. The demographics changing. Scotland will vote for Independence.

The UK economy is already tanking. Brexit has already cost £200Billions+++. More than all the EU contributions ever made. The benefits considerable. Founded to stop starvation and wars in Europe.

The US/UK illegally bombing the world to bits. Then not paying for the destruction. The EU has to pick up the pieces and the cost. At considerable expense. The UK (EU) contribution does not even cover it. The Westminster charlatans. Gie’s peace.

    • ..and right on cue, the online Herald Britland ‘leads’ with Old Clunking Fist Sone of the Manse himself Hen Broon warning that the UK needs to go ‘federal’ to stop Indyref2.
I doubt that the Herald will survive the end of the Financial Year in March, unless a mysterious ‘donor steps in.
It can only be the ‘free’ reporters from BBC Scotland that is keeping them afloat even now.

In 12 days time I am to be placed under House arrest by England’s Homeland Security, yet this sad old fart is still getting front and centre coverage for his alarming nonsense.

      • and he’s headlining in the Record, and the Scotsman….conspiracy? Surely not.
He’s giving a keynote speech, and ‘will say’. The Cut and Pastry of Brit Nat press releases which pass for ‘journalism’ ‘Up There’.
Get off your knees and fight for your nation, Scotland. We are not, never will be, or ever were a Region’ of England.

  13. Clunk away. The Labour Party going into oblivion in Scotland. The lying Vow. Lining their pockets on other people’s misery. The lying, criminal non Dom Press Read them the last rights. Reconstructed debt. It will all end in tears again.

Scotland off to new horizons. Gie’s peace. The one’s who destroyed the world and impoverished people. The Westminster unionist lying clones. Drone on.

Illegal wars, financial fraud and tax evasion. Lying Labour. Lording it over. The McCrone Report. The illegal Barnett Formula. People have rights at the Ballot Box and will use them. To vote them out, The lying sycophants.

Iraq, Lockerbie and Dunblane kept secret for 100 years.

Those of little faith. Alex Salmond will win the case. On to victory. The civil servants, not so civil at all, will go off into oblivion. The have to obey the Law of the land. They make the Law and break the Law. They think they are above the Law. They are not as they will find out to their cost. If there is any justice. Trumped up charges for everyone to see. Right over might. Ye of little faith. Contemplating defeat. It will not happen.

The spectacle of the Tory ‘leadership’ election. The stinking, sinking ship. How low can they go. The Brexit catastrophe. The car sale room and M&S have lost a member. The retail and car industry in decline, Brexit scandal.

The Emperor has no clothes for all to see. Never have so many be promoted above their capabilities. It would be a laugh if it was not so tragic. In the EU until Dec and beyond, into infinity. The dope on the rope is just a joke. It will all end in tears, again.

HS2 beyond a joke. What an absolute waste of time, space and public monies. Hickley Point and Trident a public scandal. People are dying in the streets through lack of care. Elsewhere the numbers have risen. In the rest of the UK 120,000 elderly have died prematurely, The age expectancy rate has fallen, for the first time, except for war.
